Rehabilitation
You will be discharged when you are safe. This will be tailored according to you home environment (eg: number of stairs), and the level of support you have at home. The average discharge time will be between 1-4 days depending upon your progress.
Some patients prefer a period of inpatient rehabilitation following surgery, although there is no clear scientific benefit to inpatient rehabilitation.
We understand this is a preference for many people, especially those that live alone, or who have many stairs.
Prior to surgery, it is important you check your coverage for rehabilitation with your health fund. Inpatient rehabilitation is arranged after your surgical procedure with the assistance of the Hospital Rehabilitation team and physiotherapists.
